Question: Is chianti a good wine to go with liver?
(Posted by: KJT on 2010-03-09 14:19:53)
I was going to have an old friend over for dinner. But I'm not sure what would be the best choice of wine to select. Liver is on the menu. I was also considering fava beans on the side. |

What I find interesting is that they chose Chianti for that line in the movie. Chianti is a horrible choice to go with liver as it's too fruity to be a serious match, especially to a connoisseur, like Hannibal. He would have more likely chosen a fine dark red like a Côtes du Rhône to bring out the flavor of the liver and to enhance the dish. I mean why kill someone and cook them when you plan on pairing it with the wrong wine, right? ;D |

Chianti is a red wine, strong and bold. Typical flavors in a Chianti include cherry, plum, strawberry, spice, almonds, tobacco, vanilla and coffee. Chianti goes well with well-seasoned foods. Chianti is often called a "fruity " wine, meaning it appeals to new wine drinkers. |

Is Chianti a good wine to go with liver? NO. It goes best with nice spicy Italian pasta dishes with some real Spumoni ice cream for desert. |
