Simple answer? Taste and mouth feel. That basically means the fruit taste you get from the wine, how thick or hearty the wine feels in your mouth, and the dryness it leaves in your mouth as you swallow it. Cabernet Sauvignon is generally considered the biggest and driest of the red wines, but all this is more dependent on what you think about the wine. Merlot is considered softer (Not as much as amouth feell and more fruity) and dry red wine; Pinot Noir is lighter andfruitierr, but still a little dry; Zinfandel (red, not white) is going to have a little more black pepper spice then Pinot Noir but otherwise similar characteristics; And Sauvignon Blanc (white wine) is light and has kind of a cut grass/ cat box smell and taste. I realize no one would like that description but its actually a very nice wine that compliments almost anything. Wine is one of only a few things where it doesn't matter how people describe it; it all depends on your taste and liking. What one person tastes another may not and visa versa. |
