Question about cabernet sauvignon?
Can someone tell me why different brands of cabernet sauvignon taste so different, meaning the intensity, aftertaste, etc.? Is it the grapes used, the processing, the region the wine comes from? Which is the best brand and does price make a difference?

What taste better I mean which is more tolerable cabernet sauvignon or chardonnay?
I have both bottles in front of me, and I generally like sweet wines like Zinfandel or Sangria. So which of these two will taste better to me?Thank u guys so much for responding, I popped the chardonnay it's okay, It will get me to where i'm trying to get to, LOL my bf's mom bought both of these to cook with, and ended up giving them to him, and I'm on spring break so I said shoot let me pop one of these thangs. LOL thanks for your responses

Are there any steps to take when preparing to open a refrigerated bottle of cabernet sauvignon?
I have a 1997 Napa cab that I " laid down" in my regular refrigerator because I do not own a wine refrigerator and I figured a stable temperature that was lower than optimum was better than a fluctuating temperature higher than optimum.I am planning a party in January at which I am going to open this bottle and I am wondering if should take it out and bring it up to room temperature days or weeks before I open it, or whether opening it earlier that day and decanting it for a few hours will be enough. In evaluating the answers I will look at whether they are based on the actual food science behind wine such as the behavior of yeast , and not just some response pulled out of your rear.

Is my cabernet sauvignon spoiled?
Let me preface this by saying I know next to nothing about wine, and this is probably only the third or fourth wine I have ever tried. My brother bought me a bottle of Robert Mondavi Private Selection 2006 cabernet sauvignon. Just opened and tried it this evening not chilled, not sure if I was supposed to , and it just tastes bad. Sour and flat, maybe with a faint eggy taste nothing like the strong fruit flavors or notes of anise and black olive Wikipedia has told me to expect.Do you think I just don't appreciate this particular type of wine, or is there actually something wrong with it?" Screw caps and synthetic corks, however, can be prone to another aroma taint sulphidisation, which arises from the reduced oxygen supply which concentrates sulphurous smells arising from universal preservatives." I'm fairly sure it had a synthetic cork that would explain the slight egginess then.I could probably still use this for cooking and have it not be godawful, right? Seems a shame for a whole bottle to go to waste.

Can I use a red or white cooking wine instead of cabernet sauvignon? If so which one white or red? ?
I am making a marinade for steak.

Merlot vs cabernet sauvignon?
I'm making a red wine sauce for lentils and braised vegetables, and the recipe calls for 2 cups of merlot, but I have a big bottle of cabernet sauvignon that I'd like to use up. Would using it instead affect the taste of the final product? I don't know anything about wine so I'm not expecting it to taste one way or the other.
